Several activities took place to inform the local community of the importance of wetland conservation. These activities ranged from awareness-raising forums, trainings, and other environmental activities such as tree-planting

The coastal wetlands in Togo constitute a source of great economic, cultural, and scientific value besides their ecological functions as a habitat for the flora and fauna in the area.

Tourist guides followed off-site and on-site training workshops to understand bird watching and learn about waterbird monitoring, identification, and counting.

To help protect the bird residents of the coast, several activities were developed ranging from training sessions on coastal management and bird counting.

This report provides a framework and programme outline for integrated monitoring of these populations along the flyway.

Through this project, efforts for conservation and sustainable management of the site were supported, contributing to the restoration of degraded habitats, development of educational and awareness material, conservation education, and radio programmes on wetland conservation.

The activities ranged from bird monitoring training, bird watching school clubs organization, and distribution of informative manuals on the threats to migratory birds.

The aim of the flyway vision, annexed to the 2014 Tønder Declaration, is to guide the implementation of the request of the World Heritage Committee at the inscription of the Wadden Sea as a World Heritage Site in 2009.
