Reflection paper on the Science-Policy interface

2026 I Germany

The reflection paper highlights discussions from WSFI side event at the 9th Meeting of Parties to AEWA, where delegates examined how to better integrate scientific evidence on migratory waterbirds into climate and biodiversity policy. Although migratory waterbirds are vital indicators of ecosystem health and climate impacts, their monitoring data and conservation needs are still not sufficiently reflected in national decision‑making. The Climate Resilient East Atlantic Flyway Project (CREAF) underscores the importance of stronger collaboration among researchers, site managers, and policy makers to build a more climate‑resilient flyway through improved science–policy linkages.
