Analysis of Coastal Policies at Key Sites: Banc d’Arguin National Park (Mauritania), Saloum Delta (Senegal) and the Bijagós Archipelago (Guinea-Bissau)

This report analyses coastal policies and their implementation across three key sites on the East Atlantic Flyway: Banc d’Arguin National Park in Mauritania, the Saloum Delta in Senegal and the Bijagós Archipelago in Guinea-Bissau. It reviews the legal, policy and institutional frameworks governing these important coastal ecosystems, identifying strengths, gaps and challenges in their implementation. Drawing on policy analysis and national stakeholder consultations, the report highlights the need for stronger institutional coordination, sustainable financing and regional cooperation to address shared pressures including overfishing, coastal erosion and climate change, and to safeguard the ecological connectivity of these internationally important sites.
