Flyway Monitoring
Along the East Atlantic Flyway, monitoring of migratory waterbirds is taking place in January when most birds can be found in their wintering areas where they aggregate in larger numbers than in parts of their breeding areas, making it easier to count them. Key sites are monitored each year, and every three years migratory birds are counted along the entire flyway, allowing for flyway population trends to be calculated.
This part of the website is still under construction and in the future will hopefully provide detailed information about the different waterbird populations monitored under the framework of the Wadden Sea Flyway Initiative. In the meantime, you can find the most recent information here.
